About

The Rainbow is an art studio and experience space located right next to the North Park sign in a rad historic building. We host art-hearted experiences for humans of all ages. Our hope while we’re here is to be an active member of the community and to share as much color and accessible creation as possible.

How The Rainbow was born.

Nicole Zappala is an artist, experience designer and the creator of The Rainbow. Nicole reconnected with her inner artist back in 2018. After taking local classes and exploring in her community the art scene in SD, she set off in search of studio/experience space…… and with a twist of serendipity, manifestation and the luck of friendship, The Rainbow was born.

Nicole’s colorful history of community building, experience design, and creation have played a heavy hand in the fabric that makes up The Rainbow. She values play, curiosity, access and detail. She is very lucky to be surrounded by incredible creators and community, specifically writer and creator of oh so many things Mara Altman. Mara and Nicole host MAKE events, facilitate private paint experiences and much more.

Nicole creates in a variety of mediums but specifically favors mixed media abstract with a healthy does of neon. For available works or commissions, explore her Instagram or drop her a note.

Make it.

That’s the philosophy. Think less do more. Make. Create. Feel. Do. The Rainbow hosts experiences that encourage connection, community and embodiment. Get out of your head and into the world. You’ll feel better, promise.

  • In short, it depends. We think of our Events as Experiences and try to make them unique and impactful. We work with people we vibe with and who we are inspired by. Please contact us to share what’s on your mind.

  • A canvas collab is when a group of people (family, friends, colleagues) come into our space to co create a big piece of art together. These experiences are customized, all-age appropriate and amazingly fun. Contact us for details and pricing.

  • That is the question isn’t it? We expect to be in our current location through at least the middle of 2025. We’ll keep our community updated as we know more.
